Domain Newspaper Stories Part 4

Last week at the Cathedral Domain Reading Camp campers in the writing center interviewed teachers, support staff members, counselors, and each other for a newspaper published at the end of Reading Camp. This entry is the four of five entries of the "Reading Rocks at the Domain" Reading Camp newspaper.

Micky lives in Florence and attends Ockerman Elementary, where she is in the 5th grade. Micky has three dogs and a fish. The dogs are named Chance, Max, and Taz. Her fish is named Nemo. Her favorite camp song is Black Socks. Her favorite things at Reading Camp are archery, repelling, and swimming and all the centers. She liked eating hotdogs at the campfire. In fact, she likes everything at Reading Camp. Micky plans on going to college. She wants to be a vet. Her favorite color are green and black. Her favorite football team is the Colts even though she wears a Bengals shirt.


Delshawn, otherwise known as “Delli”, is 9 years old and lives in Lexington. He goes to Harrison Elementary School. He was born on October 6th. Delshawn said he used to have a fish that really belonged to his brother, but his brother moved to their grandmother’s and forgot to take his fish. Delshawn did not know what to feed the fish so he feed it bread, which the fish seemed to like. His father forgot to clean the fish tank and the fish died. Delshawn thought that was a long story to tell. Delli plays forward and guard for the Bulls basketball team.

Dae, also known as Ace, was born on April 3, 1991 so he is 9 years old. He lives in Lexington and attends Southern Elementary School. This is his first year of Reading Camp. Ace has three brothers and no sisters. He likes someone special at Reading Camp. She has red hair and was wearing a yellow and white striped shirt. He likes this person because he says they have a lot in common. Dae’s favorite things at Reading camp are writing, Andy Sigmond and Micky, though not in that order. He also is very interested in the different kinds of bugs, moths and butterflies.

Connor lives with his mom, dad and brother in Lexington. He goes to Clays Mill Elementary School , where he is in the 5th grade. Hs has two cats named Cleo and Ivy, which are short for Cleopatra and Poison Ivy. His favorite sports are football, basketball and baseball. He plays outfielder and sometimes first base for the Yankees. His favorite camp song is Pity the Cowboy and his favorite camp things are swimming, writing center, playing 4-square, camp store, doing the plays, interviewing people and doing the plays. His favorite colors are gold, silver and red. His favorite football teams are the Steelers, the Colonels, which is his grandma’s favorite team. His very favorite teams are the UK Wildcats and the Tennessee Titans, which are also his dad’s favorite teams.

Layne had a birthday the second day of reading camp. He lives in Cynthiana and goes to Northside Elementary School, where he is in the 4th grade. Layne and his family have three dogs that are all pit bulls. They are named Cash, Dacoma, and
Psycho. His favorite song at camp is Cotton Eye Joe, which all the kids in his cabin listen to on Brian’s I-pod. Layne’s favorite things at camp are the bat cave, repelling, swimming, and swimming. His least favorite thing is sleeping. One night, he was laughing so hard that he fell out of his bunk!

Tyler had to leave camp for a day so that he could go home to Winchester to be the relief pitcher in a championship baseball game. He goes to Hanna McClure Elementary School, where he is in the 5th grade. Tyler has a cat named Boots. He has a girlfriend at home named Emily.

Gabbie lives in Frankfort, which she says is our state’s capital. She is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade at Southern Elementary School. She loves everything at Reading Camp and her favorite song is “I’m a Villin”. Gabbie says she does not have a boyfriend and is not looking for one. When she gets home from camp, she is going to go to other camps and go visiting people. After college, she wants to be a vet.

Tre lives in Woodford County and goers to Simmons Elementary School. He is in the 5th grade. Tre has 3 brothers and 1 sister. Two of his brothers are older than he is. Tre loves to play baseball and plays for a team called the Marlins. Tre missed playing in the season playoffs so that he could be at Reading camp. Tre’s favorite part of Reading Camp has been the clown college. His least favorite parts have been the hard flat beds and the bats in the cave.

Bray lives in Mt. Sterling and attends Mt. Sterling Elementary School, where he is in the 5th grade. Bray has four brothers and two cats at home. He likes to play with his cats with a fake mouse on a string. He says it is funny to watch them. Bray likes everything at Reading Camp. When he gets back home, he wants to lie on his own bed and RELAX.

Chesney is a camper this year in reading camp here at Cathedral Domain. Her favorite activity is swimming, especially jumping in the water in the deep end. She likes getting wet. Her second favorite activity at camp, so far, is archery. She is also looking forward to trying new things. At home, Chesney enjoys playing with her boxer dog Nikkii. Nikkii and Chesney like watching TV together. Later this summer, Chesney will probably be moving to Danville, Kentucky and she will also be going to another camp. She says she really enjoys being at camp!

Taylor was interviewed by Delshawn. Taylor said his favorite things to do were to sit around and eat. He lives in Winchester and goes to Hannah McClure Elementary School. He likes animals. Taylor used to live in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

On Tuesday, Sakima interviewed Jerry Boaz. Jerry is the photographer for Reading Camp at the Domain. He does not get paid for all the pictures he takes. Jerry’s favorite color is green. Jerry is married. He and his wife have a cat. Jerry likes coming to reading camp because he likes seeing kids learn how to read. Jerry lives in Covington, Kentucky.
Lanea, or as we know her Nea, lives in Mt. Sterling and goes to school at Mt. Sterling Elementary School. She was born on January 14 in 1999.She has four brothers and sisters, two of each. She does not have any pets. Her favorite pastime is playing with her friends. Her favorite thing at camp is going to all the different things, She thinks the steps up to archery are sort of scary but they are also pretty kewl. She likes horse and her favorite color is blue. After camp is over, Nea is going to go home to spend some time with her dad and then she is going to go to another camp.

Roshown lives in Lexington and goes to Cardinal Valley Elementary School. He has two girlfriends at that school and about 20 here are Reading Camp. His favorite camp song is I’m a Villian. He likes rap music . He likes to play with his game cube during his free time. His favorite foods are chicken, shrimp and cheesy mashed potatoes. His favorite thing at camp is swimming. He has become a pro at swimming.

Sarah lives in Georgetown and goes to Western Elementary school. She was born on June 7th and is 10 years old. Her favorite thing at camp is swimming, Her least favorite thing at camp is having to go to sleep. Her very favorite camp song is “Grow Bananas”. Her favorite food is pizza. Sarah has a pet named Johnny. Her favorite color is blue. She does not have any special plans for after she gets home from camp other than to go stay with her dad in Frankfort. Sarah and Mariah kept Paula confused because the two of them look so much alike. It took a long time for Paula to stop calling Sarah Mariah and Mariah Sarah.

Mariah lives in Beattyville and goes to Southside Elementary School. She lives really close to Cathedral Domain. Mariah’s birthday is May 9th and she is 10 years old. She has two kitties named Angel, who is the oldest one, and Flower. Flower is named for the skunk named Flower in Bambi because she was a stinky kitty. Her favorite in camp is hiking up those big hills. Her favorite thing is everything else. Her favorite camp song is “Grow Bananas”. Her favorite food is spaghetti. Her favorite color is blue. After camp, Mariah is going to just hang and maybe go to girl scout camp. Mariah said people kept getting she and Sarah confused with each other because the two of them look so much alike. Mariah is going to be a lion in the circus and in the circus parade. Her favorite things about a circus are the animals and the cannon ball man. In the last circus she went to, a man and a woman, who were husband and wife, were the cannon ball people. But she has to say that her favorite thing about the circus was the ringmaster because he even had his own circus song that he sang and a platform than spun him around, He also worked with other acts and circus people.

Maddie lives in Cynthiana and goes to Northside Elementary School. Maddie lost a tooth while she was at Reading Camp. The tooth fairy managed to figure out where Reading Camp was and even what cabin Maddie was in and left Maddie a dollar, but she forgot to take Maddie’s tooth! Maddie’s favorite thing at Reading Camp was switching stations in the morning. Her favorite camp song is the Banana song. Maddie liked everything at Reading Camp! She is going to miss all the friends she made, even Paula.
